A Unique and Professional Probing OTA Solution
MW5 Series – Probing OTA Chamber
The MW5 Series is a comprehensive, high-precision millimeter-wave (mmWave) measurement solution, designed for accurate S-parameter characterization and antenna radiation performance analysis of mmWave components. It is tailored to meet the stringent requirements of advanced applications in wireless communications, radar systems, and advanced packaging technologies.
Depending on the configuration, the system supports a frequency range from 10 to 110 GHz, enabling precise measurement of key electrical parameters such as S11 and S21. These capabilities allow engineers to accurately evaluate impedance matching and transmission performance, ensuring design integrity, consistency, and high product quality.
The MW5 integrates a high-magnification optical microscopy system with a precision probing measurement platform, making it suitable for a wide range of measurement scenarios involving chips, modules, and antenna structures. Combined with professional instrumentation and technical support, MW5 helps customers accelerate product validation, optimize mmWave designs, and enhance overall market competitiveness.
AiP OTA Measurement Before IC Integration
The MW5 is an OTA anechoic chamber system specifically designed for testing Antenna-in-Package (AiP) components, enabling characterization of mmWave antennas prior to phase-array IC integration.
Given the high cost and large quantity of ICs typically used, MW5’s probe-based measurement technology allows calibration directly to the probe tips. By probing at the IC contact pads, engineers can measure mmWave S-parameters and antenna characteristics, and further predict post-IC performance metrics, including load-pull behavior, G/T, and beam charts. This approach significantly reduces R&D costs while substantially improving testing efficiency.
One of MW5’s key innovations lies in its integrated probing-in-anechoic-chamber architecture. In conventional workflows, probing measurements and OTA antenna tests are conducted in separate environments, requiring physical relocation of the probe station.
MW5 combines probing and OTA antenna measurement within a single system, eliminating the risk of probe damage during transfer and enabling simultaneous measurement of mmWave S-parameters and radiation patterns. This integrated design ensures higher measurement accuracy, improved repeatability, and enhanced operational efficiency.
The antenna measurement subsystem adopts a 3D Compact Antenna Test Range (3D-CATR) scanning architecture, supporting:
◆ 360° azimuth rotation
◆ 0–90° elevation rotation
This configuration enables comprehensive measurement of antenna radiation patterns, gain, and efficiency. The system is equipped with a low-dielectric-constant measurement platform and a high-grade vibration isolation structure, effectively minimizing external interference and ensuring measurement stability and repeatability at mmWave frequencies.
Six Key Features
1. Innovative Patented Design
An open-access probe station allows easy probe placement, while the integrated OTA chamber design eliminates probe damage and measurement errors caused by post-probing relocation.
2. All-in-One Measurement Solution
Supports accurate measurements throughout the entire product lifecycle—from pre-IC antenna packaging, post-IC integration, to final product performance verification—helping engineers maintains strict performance control during development.
3. Active and Passive OTA Measurements
Supports passive measurements such as S-parameters, radiation patterns, and group delay, as well as active measurements including EIRP and Doppler effects.
4. 3D-CATR OTA System Architecture
The OTA system is designed using a 3D-CATR configuration, and a rotary waveguide integrated into the rotation axis enables accurate radiation pattern measurements across all angles.
5. Wide Frequency Coverage
In addition to the MW5 Series, multiple system configurations are available, covering frequencies from 24 GHz up to 300 GHz, allowing customization to meet diverse customer requirements.
6. Beamforming Modeling for Phased Array Systems
In addition to standard probes, MW5 supports high-impedance probes for real-time measurement of amplitude and phase variations in phased-array antennas. By adjusting the phase and amplitude of each antenna element, electromagnetic energy can be focused in specific directions, enabling precise phased-array calibration and beamforming optimization.
