In 1965, the United States' Intelsat launched the world's first commercial communication satellite, Early Bird (Intelsat I), into geostationary orbit. This marked the birth of global "satellite communication" as we know it today.
The world's largest satellite company
In 1969, the United States' Intelsat broadcasted the moon landing. Intelsat transmitted the television images of the Apollo 11 moon landing to the entire world. A record-breaking 600 million TV viewers globally watched astronauts take their first steps on the moon live, thanks to the International Satellite Telecommunications Company.
The world's largest satellite company, Intelsat, merges with SES to provide the best global VSAT satellite communication services.
Intelsat and SES announced a merger agreement, combining the two satellite companies to become the world's most powerful multi-orbit operator. The merged entity will have over 100 geostationary orbit (GEO) satellites, 26 medium earth orbit (MEO) satellites, with plans to launch an additional 8 new GEO satellites and 7 new MEO satellites. By adding Oneweb satellites, they will achieve the world's only ALL IN ONE satellite system, further enhancing global coverage and creating a stronger global network communication.
